Team
Now a Coordinator for APIFM's Enroll LA project, Nare Park (they/them) started as outreach specialist for the amazing Healthy Eating, Active Living team. They provide community outreach, develop gardening curriculum, and facilitate collaborative, fun, and culturally rooted nutrition / cooking and gardening workshops alongside co-facilitator Charleston Daulo. They provide English – Korean, Korean – English translation and consecutive interpretation support at APIFM workshops and in partnership with various community groups. Prior to working at APIFM, Nare was a Program Associate at the Healthy Neighborhood Market Network (HNMN) of the Los Angeles Food Policy Council. There, they worked with small market and corner store owners who want to succeed as healthy food retailers and partner with neighborhood / community institutions, and coordinated ongoing store owner skillshare workshops. Nare believes that food and land work can heal all living beings, and is a strong foundation for transformative liberatory movements. They were recently recognized as one of “30 under 30” food leaders by the University of California’s Global Food Initiative for their critical role “in reaching the Korean store owner base in South Los Angeles, not only ensuring cultural relevancy and language accessibility of LAFPC’s programs, but helping broker new cultural understanding and connection among Asian, Black and Latino communities in South Los Angeles, where historic tensions pre-date the 1992 civil unrest.” Nare earned their undergraduate degree in English Literature from UCLA. Outside of work, they drum with Chamsori poongmulpae, brew medicinal tangs, and they enjoy walking in nature’s abundance with friends. They live in Koreatown with their partner Jio, and are learning how to grow slowly every day like plants do.
