We at APIFM, stand together with our Black community, and other communities who are protesting and grieving the senseless killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others. Racism, violence and trauma are public health issues, and must be addressed alongside the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a crisis which has clearly shown that glaring disparities remain due to unaddressed systemic racism. The last few months, weeks and days have left us with really heavy hearts but also strengthened our resolve to be allies – to observe, to listen and to speak up against injustice – Black Lives Matter. We will be counted, we will vote and we will continue to strengthen our ongoing community partnerships with diverse community partners to strategize and find ways to meet these intersecting public health issues.
