Team

Kevin Cortez (he/him) is the Distribution Coordinator II on the Food Roots Harvest (FRH) team. Kevin began his journey with APIFM as a Project Specialist, handling deliveries for FRH food hub. As his role grew, he took on greater responsibility in coordinating between local farmers and clients, placing orders, and managing deliveries. His work supports the distribution of culturally relevant produce to the communities APIFM serves.
Recognizing food as a powerful way to build community connections, Kevin has remained committed to strengthening relationships with local farmers that help address systemic barriers and support a more just and equitable local food ecosystem to provide culturally relevant produce to the communities APIFM serves. Kevin also completed a standardized, FDA-recognized training course focused on developing, implementing, and managing Food Safety Plans. With this certification, he will work alongside fellow FRH staff to strengthen operational practices and uphold the highest standards for produce safety and handling.
More recently, Kevin transitioned to the Food Access Investing in Resilience (FAIR) Program, where he helps maintain collaborative partnerships with food rescue organizations such as Food Forward and Hollywood Food Coalition. Through these partnerships, he supports efforts to fight hunger by organizing distribution events and delivering rescued and gleaned produce to low-income community members in collaboration with community organizations, faith-based groups, parks, schools, and clinics.
Outside of work, Kevin enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching sports, finding new shows to watch, trying new foods, and drinking an excessive amount of coffee.
